There was a prototype hydrogen fuel cell powered heavy rail locomotive prototype built and tested in Japan a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteWe applied to the DTI's Technology Strategy Board twice for a grant of around £1.5 million for a high-powered technical research consortium we had formed, but were turned down on the curious grounds that the proposal was “not innovative” despite the fact that there is no such vehicle anywhere in the world, as far as we or anyone else is aware. Now the DTI’s successor is providing a £10-million grant to pay for five hydrogen fuel cell buses to be purchased from the US by TfL! It seems that the UK Government prefers to subsidise US innovation rather than British.
