"Moray Greens Raise Concerns Over Proposed Waste Plant"

"Moray Greens raise concerns about proposals by Clean Power Properties and Network Rail to construct a combined Anaerobic Digestion (AD) and Advanced Conversion Technology (ACT) facility beside the train station and A96 in Forres.

"... The Advanced Conversion Technology component is not welcome. Advanced Conversion Technologies are a slightly more modern version of gasification, and like incineration, have no place in working towards a zero waste society. While gasification is a better way of dealing with waste than landfill, it only addresses one of the effects of overconsumption, rather than its causes. It encourages continued overuse of natural resources to maintain the production of waste to feed the waste processing plant; it is not a sustainable source of renewable energy.

"The facility plans to use 150,000 to 200,000 tonnes of waste per year, which would have to be sourced from well beyond Moray. Aside for making Forres the waste capital of the North, this would also involve significant transport impacts on the area. The sight of one or more tall, industrial chimneys in such a prominent location in Forres is also unwelcome."
