Visit Souf of the River, 13 November

On behalf of the Harlesden Town Team 2010 Advisory Panel and Brent Council, we are organising a site visit to Walworth Road and The Cut in south London.
"Four lanes bad, Two lanes good?"
(quote from Animal Farm)

Both streets have been recently upgraded [see set of photos at the end of this letter] to provide:
  • high quality materials
  • additional space for pedestrians, including additional street crossings
  • altered parking and loading zones
  • an improved overall setting for each area.
Many lessons can be learned from both streets, and we would like to show you first hand what has been done there, and discuss what could be learned for Harlesden and the developing Public Realm Scheme for the town centre streets and spaces.

We would encourage those who can attend to meet Leroy and the Advisory Team at Willesden Junction tube station (Station Approach entrance) at 10.15am on Saturday 13 November.

The overall group will meet at Elephant and Castle tube station at the Bakerloo entrance in London Road at 11.30am, including John Dryden from Brent Transportation. We will walk around for about an hour or an hour-and-a-half.

As we are unable to provide any funding for transport or lunch, we understand if you are unable to attend; we will provide pictures and an overview of each scheme at the workshop on 27 November. However, your input on both the site visit next Saturday 13 November and on the workshop event on 27 November will help ensure the Public Realm Scheme is developed with your ideas in order to improve your town centre. Any thoughts or ideas are always welcome, and we look forward to seeing you.

Please let me, or Leroy Simpson, chair of the Harlesden Town Team 2010 (donkingsimpson@btinternet.com), know via email if you plan to attend the site visit.

Kind regards,
Scott Adams
