The plans (below) for the redevelopment of Willesden Green Library Centre will be on display at the library, at a two-day exhibition:

Saturday 10 March, 10am to 2pm

There is an opposition group to the proposals (which include demolishing the exiting old library building)

The 'Keep Willesden Green' group says:
"Willesden Green is facing big changes and we want to make sure that people who live or work in the area have their say.

There are plans to demolish the Willesden Green Library and replace it with a Cultural Centre. In the process the valued Willesden Bookshop will lose its premises and the locally cherished old Victorian Willesden Central Library will be demolished.

The new development will have a smaller footprint than the current Willesden Library Centre and new housing will be developed around the site.

The rare and valued open space at the front of the current building will be reduced.

The plans released by the architects have received a less than rapturous reception from local people.

Please join in the debate."

  1. this scheme is a disaster. Replacing a beautiful and, despite Linden's absolutely false statement, architecturally cherished old building with that monstrosity on the high st. I really think the architects should be ashamed! The old library is just about the only bit of the high st that makes you smile and a generic and already dated 'cultural centre' will ruin that corner. Shame on you Brent, you disgust me! Just do up the high st shops, it will be a lot cheaper. And I'm a developer, so I know what Im talking about.
