Town Team Newsletter

1. Station Road
We still are waiting to see the selected bin photo and confirmation on size and capacity
(for street care to empty on a regular basis). It has been reported by Brent Council that
the project is running 4 weeks late; it is due to be completed by end of March. There will be
an event to celebrate the end of this project – details to follow in due course.

2. Harlesden Town Centre Project
Consultation ended on the 17th Feb 2012. We are waiting for the results. The updated
charter will be available at the next general meeting.

3. Harlesden Community Hub
We have met with Serena Balfour after the January meeting. Funding has been secured to
develop the Harlesden Community Hub. There will be a meeting in March with the
consortium. At present, it seems that the HTT team will be the consultants on this project
and the consortium will take care of the daily running of the project.

4. Partnership with Methodist Church
No update.

5. John Kebel School
Myself (Leroy) and John Drydon have picked up the posters and brainstorming ideas for 'Respect Harlesden'.

6. Newman College
Myself and John have attended the meeting with the school council, and this relationship is
developing in a very useful team.

7. Love Harlesden Event
The Salvation Army hall is booked on the 17th June. If you have ideas or wish to participate on the day, please contact Julia for more information.

8. Love Shopping in Harlesden
As discussed at our last meeting, we should promote the shops in Harlesden by asking our
members to shop and carry out a survey, to attract more involvement in the Harlesden Town
Team campaign, and seek sponsorship and promotion of the love Harlesden Event, We will be having an award ceremony and we have the 1st draft of the promotion event.

9. London sings
The plan is to form a Harlesden Faith choir which is in progress; we are looking to have 4
sections, leading on one song each, with the director of music at John Kebel schools
coordinating the event. Please see minutes for more details. At present, we have methodist church, romanian, brazilian choir and we will form a gospel choir. Auditions and meetings will be held to plan the choirs. The Brent borough completion final will be held at the Brent Town Hall.

10. Activities
At present we are looking at using all the resources in Harlesden town centre. This will
include church halls and any available space. We need to coordinate all activities, to make
sure that are being use for the best result of the community. On Monday the 9th Jan we will
ask our members to priotise this and we will lead on the outcome. Please see the draft of the consultation from our members. The activities will be overseen by the Chairman and Julia and the subcommittee. The HTT advisory team has got a verbal agreement with the
churches to let us gain access to their halls one day a week. We have surveyed the JKT team, Newham school council and the senior team and their proposal, and this will be discussed at our next general meeting.

11. Funding
The HTT advisory are looking at 3 main funding applications, CDF (£68,000), Portas Pilots
(invitation to become a Town Team £100,000), VSIF (voluntary Sector Initiative Fund) and we
are looking at 4 smaller trusts which give funding to resident organisations.
We will need our members to help us in recruitment of our shop owners as members of
Harlesden Town Team, to meet the criteria of the funding requirements.

12. Harlesden Town Team Board of Trustees
As agreed, the HTT team will have a board of 10 – 12 members the chairman of the board will be selected by the elected officers. The chairman of the HTT team will sit on the board, all other posts will be a recruitment process, and we need a board in place by the end of March. 13. JStar
Please note that JSTAR and their partners will be running a youth club (14 – 25yrs) every
Friday at the Open Door Ministry, Tubbs Road Harlesden NW10. if you know of anybody who
can benefit from this service, please pass on your details.

14. Misty Moon
Members please note the following things are available at the Misty Moon: there is an
Indian cuisine with a small English menu available all day. Don’t forget the Lexi Cinema film
nights.
