[Reposted from Jan 2013] Sarah Teather MP Supports Residents Against Rubbish

Sarah Teather today joined the members of REACH RA - Residents for a Cleaner Harlesden Residents' Association - in order to pay tribute to their hard work, drive and dedication in making Harlesden a cleaner and nicer place to live.

REACH resident's association was formed less than a year ago to bring local residents together to work to promote the exercise of residents' rights, improve local amenities and services, and to clean up the area. They also plan to organise social events and activities aimed at promoting a sense of community.

REACH RA has already obtained extra services from Brent Council such as a brand new recycling site on Park Parade, in place since last July. REACH RA holds regular walkabouts with Brent Waste Department to further improve the situation.

One of the many projects that REACH RA, together with Rucklidge Residents' Association and Odessa and Palermo Road Neighbourhood Watch are pushing forward is a scheme to combat the dumping of rubbish around Park Parade. This project is called Kensal Green Streets and it will raise awareness of the changes to Brent Council's waste collection in order to minimise the amount of rubbish in the streets. As part of this the group will also survey local residents and organise clean up days among many other activities.

REACH resident's association currently covers the area of Park Parade, Harlesden Gardens, Sellons Avenue, Crownhill Road, Springwell Avenue, St-John's Avenue, Leghorn Road and Cholmondeley Avenue. However, residents of any street in Harlesden are welcome to join. This is done by contacting the Co-Chairs of the association: nathaliemonnot@gmail.com and kevinpbuck@aol.com

Local residents can also join RECH RA's Facebook page to post pictures of the rubbish or fly tipping as well as get information about the latest projects organised: www.facebook.com/groups/350787428305507/
Commenting, Lib Dem MP for Brent Central Sarah Teather said:

"It is great that Harlesden residents are coming together to work to improve their local area. Dumped rubbish is a particularly bad problem in the area, and since the council slashed the street cleaning the situation has only got worse."

"I am particularly impressed by REACH Residents Association's plans to reach out to the wider community through surveys, social events and clean-up days. I wish them every success in their continuing efforts."
